Because what we do matters ...
A jogger was running along a beach one morning. In the distance he saw an old man reaching down into the sand and throwing something into the water. He could not make out what the man was doing. As he drew closer he saw that the man was picking up starfish and tossing them into the ocean.
When he reached the old man he asked why he was spending so much energy on tossing starfish. The old man answered "because if I don't they will wither and die in the sun". The jogger laughed and said "but you can't save them all". The old man reached down and picked up another, flung it into the ocean and said "yes, but I just saved that one".
