NEW LEGISLATION ALLOWS HORSE SLAUGHTER

Sunshine Horses mission is not only to make people aware of the slaughter of horses, but to also provide an alternative. Toward this end, we have since our beginning offered sanctuary & adoption as a viable alternative.  To continue our goals, we are seeking donations to care for our current herd of adoptable horses.

Our $5000 goal is to help us get through the winter months feeding & caring for our charges.  It currently costs us approximately $5/day per horse to feed & provide bedding. With 20 horses in our care that is $100 per day, $3000 per month.

Your generous contributions will help us to continue our mission to "Save the Horses", one at a time.

Saving Sophie
by Amy Herdy (appeared in Equus magazine)

"There are few animals more distressing than horses in need.Perhaps it's because domestication puts them at our mercy, with our fences keeping them from foraging elsewhere for food when we don't provide enough.Maybe it's the injustice of failing an animal who is gracious enough to carry us on his back--and despite his enormous advantages of speed and power, rarely does purposeful harm.
Perhaps it's because the expressive eye of the horse silently communicates so much in the way of fear, satisfaction, joy or pain,if only we'd take the time to see. Most of all,I think,it's because an abused or neglected horse is such a far cry from his potential of a confident, muscled, grand beast, whose movements can be as lyrical as a symphony and more awe-inspiring than any leap of a prima ballerina. When a horse is in pain because of our indifference, ignorance or cruely,it's an injustice against all generations of the strong and proud horses that came before him."
